Arrest made in Logan County child death

Arkansas State Police have arrested a Logan County man in connection with the death of a child killed Thursday (Dec. 21) in a gas explosion.

State Police arrested Ricky Carter, 27, in connection with first-degree murder and arson.

The baby died in a gas explosion about 4:20 a.m. Thursday at a home located in the 1700 block of South Elm Street, police said.

According to police, a Paris Police Officer entered the residence and assisted Ricky Carter, who was staying at the residence, with carrying four minor children out of the burning home. Carter, along with three of the children were not injured.

Police said the mother was at work when the explosion happened.

Arkansas State Police is continuing to investigate the matter.

The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is assisting in an investigation of a child who died following a gas explosion at a Paris home.

According to State Police, the Paris Police Dept. got a call of a loud noise near S. Elm St. around 4:26 a.m. and responded to find a house on fire.

A police officer and the homeowner entered the residence to carry four children out of the burning home.

State Police say three of the children were not injured, but one child was taken to the hospital and died.
