Helena/West Helena withdraws from playoffs following bus accident

Update:

The Arkansas Activities Association tells Channel Seven the Helena/West Helena Central cheer leaders, band members and football players were involved in a bus accident on their way to Arkadelphia.

Due to injured students, the administrators and coaches from Helena/West Helena Central have decided to withdraw from the playoffs.

Arkadelphia will play Batesville Southside on Friday, November 17th.

Benton police are assisting State Police work an accident involving three Helena-West Helena school buses and another vehicle.

Authorities tell KATV the vehicles collided on Interstate 30 westbound near mile-marker 116 in Benton.

Benton police report minor injuries.

At 4:39 p.m. Friday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation reported one of the westbound lanes closed, with drivers told to avoid the scene . At 5:42 p.m., they reported the lane had reopened.

In a Facebook post Friday afternoon, the Arkansas Activities Association says the Helena-West Helena's game against Arkadelphia has been postponed due to the wreck.
