A man died Thursday morning near Danville when a garbage truck rolled downhill and struck him, the sheriff's office reported.

Lloyd Dale Bice Jr., 52, worked for a waste management company in the area. The sheriff's office said Bice was driving the truck when he got out at a home on Arkansas 80 west of Danville to help a co-worker collect trash. The truck reportedly rolled downhill and ran over him about 9:24 a.m.

The sheriff's office said Bice's death appears to be accidental. The agency is investigating along with the Yell County coroner.

Bice was a Yell County sheriff's deputy in the early 1990s under former sheriff Mike May, according to the sheriff's office.
