Investigation underway after woman's body found in Woodruff County

Authorities are piecing together the details after a woman's body was found by Arkansas Game and Fish officers in Woodruff County.

At approximately 2:16 p.m. Monday, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office got a call from swimmers on the White River who found an abandoned car near the Fitzhugh Levee.

Deputies found the vehicle, which was registered out of Craighead County. The registered owner was contacted by the Craighead County Sheriff's Office and a missing person report was filed with Craighead County.

Just as a search was about to pick up again Tuesday, Jackson County authorities were notified by Arkansas Game and Fish Officers in Woodruff County that they located the body of an unidentified white female.

The body will be submitted to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Jackson County Sheriffs Office is asking anyone with information in the investigation to contact the sheriff's office at (870) 523-5842.
