Personal padlocks, or "love locks," will no longer adorn the Junction Bridge in Downtown Little Rock.

Representatives of the bridge will begin removing the padlocks on November 15 in an attempt to end the fad, which board members say is marring the blue railings and removing paint.

During an annual assessment of the Junction Bridge, the board members reviewed the practice, saying while they appreciate the public interest in the bridge, repainting and repairing the railings is costly.

Since many of the padlocks do not have contact information on them, they will not be able to return the them to their original owners.

The Junction Bridge Board also approved removing any locks that are attached in the future.

The board referred to the "love locks" custom in Paris, saying hundreds of thousands of locks were also removed from its bridges in recent years.
