The Social Security Administration has listed the top five baby names for boys and girls in Arkansas for 2016.

The top names for boys were:


  1. Elijah
  2. William
  3. Mason
  4. Noah
  5. James

The top names for girls were:


  1. Ava
  2. Emma
  3. Olivia
  4. Abigail
  5. Harper

For all of the U.S., the top names were Noah and Emma in 2016.

The agency says pop culture is a huge influence on naming trends, with the names Kehlani and Kylo making the biggest jump in popularity. They each moved more than 2,000 spots to make the top 1,000 list.

The agency reports Kehlani Parrish is a singer/songwriter who was nominated for a Grammy in 2016. Kylo Ren was the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia (and the grandson of Darth Vader) in the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
