One suspect in custody after Christmas morning homicide

A woman kidnapped during a home invasion in Scott was found by the banks of the Arkansas River early Monday morning, according to a police report.

Little Rock Police say they found the 42-year-old woman after receiving a 911 call from someone who heard the kidnapping victim screaming for help near River Mountain Drive. The victim told police she had been thrown off the I-430 bridge into the Arkansas River and then swam to shore, according to police reports.

The victim had been kidnapped from a home in the 3100 block of Johnson Road in Scott just after midnight on Monday morning. According to Little Rock Police, the kidnapping victim told investigators that she witnessed a shooting where two people were shot. One of those victims died at the scene - 49-year-old Arlin Nugent - according to the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office; the other shooting victim was transported to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.

According to reports, the kidnapping victim was taken to UAMS to be treated for hypothermia. The water in the Arkansas River at the time she was thrown was roughly 32 degrees. The victim told investigators at the hospital that one of the men who kidnapped her was 33-year-old Richard Gilliam of Little Rock. Little Rock police were able to locate Gilliam at an apartment in Little Rock and took him into custody without incident. Gilliam is currently being held at the Lonoke County Detention Center without bond until his first court appearance set for December 27 at 8:00 AM.


The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early Monday morning homicide.

Deputies were called out to Johnson Road in Scott on reports of shots fired.

When deputies arrived they located two individuals that had been shot, one of which was deceased.

The deceased individuals has been identified as Arlin Wayne Nugent ,49.

Investigators learned that a female was possibly missing from the residence.

A statewide broadcast was made to locate the female who was later found in Pulaski County and was transported to the hospital for her injuries.

According to officials two black males entered the residence and began shooting.

The suspects then kidnapped that female victim.

Richard Gilliam,33 was taken into custody and was booked on charges of Capital Murder, Kidnapping, Criminal Attempt to commit Capital Murder, and Aggravated Residential Burglary.

Gillam is being held without bail until his first court appearance.

Lonoke County Sheriff's Office is currently looking for a second suspect for questioning.
