A Saline County couple arrested Thursday after their two children were found dead in a pond made their first court appearance Friday.

Jonathan Daniel Welborn, 30, and Brittany Nichole Hairston, 26, were arraigned in Benton District Court.

Hairston is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Her bond was set at $25,000.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to the 16000 block of Highway 298 in Paron for a missing pickup truck with two children inside. Before arriving on the scene, dispatchers indicated the truck had been located in a pond near the address.

Police say a 2-year-old girl and 6-month-old boy were inside the vehicle. Efforts to revive the children were unsuccessful.

Welborn and Hairston are being held in the Saline County jail.
