A Little Rock man is facing multiple charges after reportedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's home and being shot Thursday morning.

Officers say the crime happened in the 6600 block of Pecan Lane around 9 a.m.

According to the police report, 24-year-old Ricky Higgs flagged down authorities in the area and told police a suspect shot him as he walking up to a Pecan Lane home. Higgs had a gunshot wound to his upper right forearm and was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

Officers then went to the crime scene, where they made contact with Briana Lewis. The report says Lewis had an order of protection against Higgs, her ex-boyfriend, and told police Higgs broke into her home and started an argument.

Lewis admitted to shooting Higgs, saying she was in fear for her safety. She was taken into custody for questioning but later released without charges pending a file review by the prosecuting attorney's office.

Police at the scene also talked to a neighbor who said Lewis contacted him, letting him know Higgs was outside her home and trying to break-in.

The neighbor told police he was walking over to the house when he heard a window break and saw Lewis and Higgs arguing.

He said he witnessed Lewis shoot Higgs and saw Higgs wrestle away the gun, which was dropped. The neighbor kicked the gun away and Higgs fled the scene.

Police say Higgs was later taken into custody for residential burglary, third-degree domestic battery and violation of a protection order. A hold was also placed on him for a burglary warrant out of Pulaski County.
