The second-largest Powerball jackpot in history generated $1.6 million for scholarships in Arkansas.

Arkansans itching for the prize spent nearly $3.8 million in the three days leading up to the Wednesday drawing for the $758 million jackpot, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery says.

“Arkansans, like players all over the country, got really excited by the prospects of winning this large prize and they showed up at our retailers in huge numbers,” said Bishop Woosley, executive director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. “The big winners in all of this are students in Arkansas who will receive funding for their educational pursuits.”

A hospital worker from Massachusetts claimed the prize, but it was still a win for Arkansas students.

The $1.6 million will go into the fund that provides college scholarships for students at every public and private college, university and two-year technical school in the Natural State.
