Sheriff's office identifies man who died after he fought with deputies
CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) —
The Cleburne County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died while in a fight with deputies Saturday.
According to authorities, 34-year-old Heath Allen Snowden of Heber Springs died following the fight at a homeless ministry shelter in Cleburne County.
The Cleburne County Sheriff says he died after a "very intense physical altercation."
According to Sheriff Chris Brown, the incident occurred at 502 Heber Springs Road West. Deputies with the Cleburne County Sheriff's office were dispatched to assist Northstar EMS. Northstar EMS was on a medical call, and another male in the vicinity was acting disorderly.
When deputies arrived, they attempted to talk to the man, but the subject became "unruly and combative."
Sheriff Brown says Snowden fought with deputies as they tried to arrest him. After he was taken into custody, deputies discovered the man was in medical distress. Some deputies began CPR while another ran back to get assistance from Northstar.
Deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave while an investigation, led by State Police, is underway.
The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
All information will be turned over to the 16th Judicial Prosecutor's Office to be reviewed after the investigation is complete.
