Sheriff's Office: Man found with meth pipe in pocket when registering as sex offender
LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) —
A man who went to the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office to register as a sex offender was given other charges when he was found with a meth pipe in his pocket, according to authorities.
In a post on its Facebook page, the sheriff's office says Michael Wayne Smith forgot two things when he went to register as a sex offender.
First, he failed to update his registration, as required by law in Faulkner County, meaning he had a felony warrant. Second, authorities say he was found with a meth pipe in his pocket.
When a deputy attempted to place Smith under arrest, the sheriff's office reports he tried to resist and attempted to throw the pipe.
He now faces charges of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
The advice from county authorities: "[D]on't bring your dope pipe to the Sheriff's office when registering as a sex offender with a felony warrant!"
