Police say one man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Ozark late Tuesday night.

Authorities say they received a domestic disturbance call just after 10:00 p.m. for a residence in the 1000 block of West School Street in Franklin County.

Witnesses told police that Ronald Elliot, 49, had armed himself with a gun and locked himself inside his bedroom. Before an officer arrived at the home, a woman had entered the bedroom in an attempt to disarm Elliot.

Witnesses said when the officer arrived and entered the bedroom, they heard him instruct Elliot to put down the gun, followed by the sound of a gunshot.

Elliot was taken to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

State police say his body is being transported to the crime lab for further investigation.

The identity of the officer that fired his weapon as well as his administrative status remains unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation, we will update the story as more information becomes available.
