Suspect jailed for attempting to set K9 officer on fire

A North Little Rock man faces charges after police accused him of pouring gasoline on a K9 officer right before starting a fire.

Police were called to the area near Bridgeway Road and Betts Lane on Thursday about a suspicious man in the woods.

According to officers, 26-year-old Justin Shelly ran into a home, kicked in the back door and went into the garage, where he picked up a 5-gallon container of gasoline.

Shelly allegedly poured gasoline on the floor, then on the K9 dog and splashed the liquid toward officers while also holding a cigarette lighter.

The officer and K9 escaped unharmed.

According to Pulaski County jail records, Shelly was booked for aggravated assault against police officers, arson and commercial burglary.
