Students and school leaders celebrated a groundbreaking for Sylvan Hills High School on Monday in Pulaski County.

The project is an expansion of the original campus, which was built in the 60's.

The new facilities will include a new dining area, 24 new core classrooms, eight science classrooms, four art rooms, new administration offices and a new health center.

"What we are really looking forward to is the additional classrooms we've had to move our freshman off-site for the past couple of years," said Tracy Allen, the principal. "We are ready to bring them back, so we will have a three story classroom complex."

School leaders tell KATV new construction will help solve an overcrowding problem. The new facility is expected to be completed in June 2019.
