UCA student accused of rape following campus fraternity party

An 18-year-old University of Central Arkansas student has been accused of raping a female student after helping her to her dorm following a campus fraternity party on Friday.

According to UCAPD, Michael Andrew Zeher admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim.

The victim's friend told police Zeher had walked the victim from the campus party back to her dorm room because she was intoxicated.

A short while later, the victim's friend said she received a snap chat from Zeher's roommate stating that Zeher was having sex with the victim.

The victim told officers Zeher forced himself inside her.

Police say Zeher consented to answer questions without an attorney present, admitting he knew the victim was incoherent during the incident.

One officer wrote in his report, "I asked him why he had sex with [the victim] even though he knew it was wrong. He told me that it was because he had liked her for a long time and that he ‘had feelings for her.’”

UCA Associate Vice President of Communications Christina Madsen said she could not release details pertaining to the case but said that UCAPD “continues to investigate and they are cooperating with prosecutors.”

Rape is punishable by 10-40 years or life in prison.

This is the first sexual assault reported on campus in the 2017-2018 school year.

Zeher has since been released on bond.

KATV's original story reported that Zeher was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma, however, we have confirmed that he is not affiliated with the fraternity but was at a fraternity party prior to the alleged rape.
