New start date for almost 200 Arkansas school districts approved
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) Nearly two hundred school districts in Arkansas have been approved to start the next school year five days earlier than state law permits.
On Thursday the state board of education decided to let one hundred ninety-one districts start the 2018-2019 school year on August 13th
A dozen districts have yet to receive waivers of the statute that controls the timing for the start of the school year.
Arkansas state law sets the first day of school for the Monday in the week that contains the date of August 19th. That would make the earliest first day of school August 20th in the coming 2018-2019 school year.
