Meet the Democratic candidates for Arkansas governor
Little Rock, AR —
Two democratic candidates running for governor, Leticia Sanders and Jared Henderson are both looking for your vote come May 22nd.
On Wednesday, with less than a week to go to the primary election, Henderson was out in Little Rock campaigning and making last minute connections.
“I hope that voters will lean in, take a look and give a lot of candidates some consideration,” said Henderson.
Hendrson, a former research scientist and operations manager for NASA has a background in education, in which he hopes to use if elected.
“If we can give teachers the resources that they need, the respect they deserve, the training that we know works and crazy idea, get out of their way, we have a good fighting chance at building a good education system for every child,” said Henderson.
The Arkansas native is also focusing on healthcare, small businesses, and ending poverty.
“Our hospitals, particularly our smaller communities, getting that care compensated is important for them keeping their jobs open and survive…as we scale back Medicaid, we put that at risk,” said Henderson.
Running against Henderson is other democratic candidate, Leticia Sanders.
“The state of Arkansas needs new structures and new avenues, that is what I am trying to create,” said Sanders.
Sanders, a political novice and hair stylists is out to raise the states minimum wage, make healthcare affordable for all and change laws regarding marijuana, aiming to keep the natural state as natural as possible.
“Not putting stipulations on the cannabis when it was created by our creator,” said Sanders.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face either incumbent GOP Governor Asa Hutchinson or his Republican challenger Jan Morgan, or perhaps Libertarian Mark West in the November general election.
