Beyond the Game: Breast cancer survivor speaks to Little Rock Trojans

Before the Little Rock women's basketball team took the court to clinch a share of the Sun Belt title, they heard from an inspirational woman.

Patti Bryant is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 2010, on her 30th wedding anniversary. A routine mammogram led to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Thursday night, she was the team's honorary coach. She spoke to Joe Foley's squad before the game, then sat in her usual seats a few rows behind the bench.

The efforts to recognize Bryant were part of the 10th annual Play 4 Kay game, which aims to raise money to end women's cancer.

"It's very exciting and brings up a lot of emotions and I hope that more money can lead to more research and someday they can find a cure so we don't have to go through this," Bryant said.

The Trojans play for the outright conference title Saturday at 4:00, followed by the men's game at 6:00.
