Beyond the Game update: Double amputee swimmer qualifies for world championships
MAYFLOWER (KATV) —
Mayflower's Julia Gaffney was selected to compete at the Para Swimming World Championships in Mexico City.
Gaffney, featured in this June, 2016 Beyond the Game story, was born without both legs. She has one amputation above the knee, one below.
She is one of only 22 athletes named to Team USA and one of only 12 females.
The competition takes place Sept. 30-Oct. 6.
"It's inspirational because you see her doing this and you want to put yourself in her shoes," Marleneanu said in KATV's 2016 Beyond the Game story. "The things she can accomplish tells you, you can do so much more than what you've done."
"If I can do it, anyone else can do it," Gaffney said.
