Beyond the Game: Year-end updates

Julia Gaffney (KATV photo)

In June 2016, KATV featured Julia Gaffney, a double amputee swimmer from Mayflower. Watch the story here. At the recent World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico City, Gaffney won the silver in the 50 Free, 400 Free, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breastroke, and 200 Individual Medley. She also won bronze in the 100 Free. Then, one week later, at the Pro-Am Elite Meet in Lewisville, Texas, she broke the American record in the 100 Breaststroke (1.32.39).

In February 2017, KATV featured this high school weightlifting program that transformed the lives of special needs students. You can watch that story here. Many of these same kids - and many more that signed up after seeing the story - are scheduled to compete at the 2018 meet, scheduled for February 17th.
