RJ Hawk from 103.7 The Buzz will return to his alma mater this fall as the new sideline reporter for University of Central Arkansas football.

Hawk replaces Monty Rowell, who retired following the 2017 season. The KATV ties to UCA's radio broadcasts continue, as he will join play-by-play announcer Justin Acri and color commentator Chris Kane on the UCA broadcasts beginning with the 2018 season opener at Tulsa on Sept. 1.

“I’m really excited about joining the UCA broadcast team,’ said Hawk, who will be returning to his alma mater. “I never thought my name would join the likes of Bill Johnson, Monty Rowell and Steve Sullivan as one that got to tell the story of UCA football. It’s not very often in a broadcaster’s career that they get to come back to the place where it all started. Being an alumni, UCA holds a special place in my heart.”

“Working with both Justin Acri and Chris Kane will be a lot of fun. Both are the definition of true professionalism, and I really believe fans will like the chemistry that the three of us will have this season.’

Hawk has worked with Acri at The Buzz for the past 10 years and is currently the on-air producer for The Show With No Name in the 6 a.m.-10 a.m. slot that features Tommy Smith, David Bazzel and Roger Scott. For the past eight years, Hawk has served as the color analyst for the Henderson State Reddies football broadcasts with Phil Elson.

Hawk has also covered the Arkansas high school football and basketball state championships for The Buzz over the past seven years.

“First off, we want to thank Monty Rowell for his many years of outstanding work as a UCA broadcaster, in both football and basketball,’ said Dr. Brad Teague, UCA’s director of Athletics. “We will certainly miss a legend like Monty.

“But we are also very excited about getting another UCA alumnus in that spot to work with Justin and Chris. RJ’s background in broadcasting and his ties to UCA will add to our already outstanding broadcast team and enhance our football game day experience for our fans.’

Hawk, originally from Athens, Texas, graduated from UCA in 2008 with journalism and marketing degrees. He has a wife, Brianna, and a daughter, Addison.
