Kaila Lafferty is the reporter for Daybreak on KATV. She joined the team in February 2018 and is excited to bring you live and breaking news.
Kaila was born in raised in Seattle, Washington, and grew up spending weekends hiking and skiing the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
She attended The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University and is a proud Cougar alumna. At Washington State she participated in programs like Cable 8 Productions, and Murrow News 8, a student-led nightly news program. With Murrow News 8, Kaila produced a Northwest Regional Emmy award-winning newscast. She graduated from WSU with a degree in Communication with an emphasis in journalism and media production.
Right after graduation, Kaila began working at KLEW News in Lewiston, Idaho. She was a multimedia journalist and anchor for almost two years. With her time in Lewiston, Kaila covered a variety of stories from wildfires, a school shooting, and she was even tased by Lewiston Police for a story on their new body camera system. One of her proudest achievements was creating a segment called KLEW Community Heroes where she did stories featuring people from the community who inspired and helped others.
When she’s not working, Kaila likes exploring the city and trying out new restaurants. Even though most still live in Washington, she makes her family a priority and talks with them every day. Kaila is excited to live in the Natural State and see what the South has to offer.
