12-year-old girl hit and killed while getting off school bus

Hearts are heavy tonight in a small southwest Arkansas community after a 12-year-old girl was struck and killed, while she was getting off the school bus.
Jazmin Hernandez was a 7th grader at Kirby High School in Pike County, tonight her family is hanging on to their faith grieving with their church community.
It was around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, when Hernandez was getting off the school bus when the unimaginable happened; she was struck by a white Ford Explorer. According to Arkansas State Police, the car was traveling westbound and failed to yield to the bus' stop sign, emergency lights and signals.
"She was a really intelligent girl, I'm going to miss her a lot," said Jazmin's father, Miguel Hernandez.
Her father said she was a bright student and had quite the humor with one moment he'll never forget.
"When the time that she told me she hated me, she hated me with love," said Hernandez.
The entire Hispanic church community came together to support their pastor and the Hernandez family.
"She was I think the best daughter any parent could have," said Casey Gonzalez, Hernandez's Sunday school teacher.
While her family and community grieve, Hernandez's best friends said they'll be sisters forever.
"I feel like she's still alive, likewhen I left the hospital I wanted to go running to her room and see her, but my mom said no because they didn't let us," said Hernandez's best friend, Melanie Morales.
Kirby Schools Superintendent, Jeff Alexander, said counselors have been at the schools assisting. Around 40 students were on that bus when Hernandez was hit.
Arkansas State Police continue to investigate. They have not released who was behind the wheel of the car that struck Hernandez. Channel 7 will continue to update this story.

A 12-year-old girl was hit and killed by a driver while getting off a school bus, according to Arkansas State Police.
According to the preliminary fatal crash summary, Jazmin Hernandez, was getting off the school bus at 1932 Highway 70 in Pike County on Monday at around 3:30 p.m. when she was hit.
The summary states that a Ford Explorer was traveling westbound on HWY 70 and failed to yield to the eastbound school bus and struck Hernandez as she crossed the highway.
State police have not identified the driver of the Ford Explorer. Further details to be released as they become available.
