UPDATE: Deputy kills dog involved in deadly attack

Authorities telling Channel 7 that one of the pit bulls involved in the attack that killed Detrick Johnson, 36, is dead. Monday morning the dog reportedly returned to C.J's Garage, where the attack happened.

A deputy said the dog showed signs of aggression and that's when he shot the dog. Another pit bull, which was not originally accounted for was seized from the property. No formal charges have been filed against the owner.

A man was killed this morning in Jefferson County after being attacked by a pack of pit bulls.The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office identifies the victim as De'trick O. Johnson, 36 of Pine Bluff. The owner of the dogs and the property where the attack happened, is John Chester Smith, 63.Authorities said just before 10:00 a.m. a group of seven pit bulls charged underneath a fence, then started mauling Johnson. Police say the incident happened at C.J.'s Garage at 300 North Thomas Road in Jefferson County.The first reporting deputy encountered one of the pit bulls, who immediately charged his patrol vehicle. The deputy tried to use his Taser, but it had no effect on the dog, forcing the deputy to use lethal force and shoot the dog.Of the seven dogs, four were shot, two were captured, and one escaped on Interstate 530. The two captured pit bulls were taken to Pine Bluff Animal Control.A tranquilizer gun was used while trying to seize the dogs by Animal Control, but it was unsuccessful. Authorities are asking for the public's helping in finding the escaped pit bull. The dog is described as tan and white and weighing about 65 pounds. Woods said no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, but the Sheriff's Office is still investigating and they're currently working with the 11th Judicial West Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Maj. Woods also said reports have been filed in the past regarding Smith's dogs.
