Monticello Mayor Allen Maxwell found dead

(KATV) Cityof Monticello Mayor, Allen Maxwell was found dead by his wife Monday morning. The 70-year-oldrecently filed for a second term, he was serving the last year of his firstterm.

TheCity released the following statement: The City of Monticello deeply mourns hispassing. His service to the City was unmmeasurable. Funeral arrangements willbe announced at a later time. All your prayers will be appreciated for hisfriends and family.

Maxwell grew up in Warren, he started hispolitical career in 1992 and he was a former State Representative.

The Mayor's secretary told Channel Seventhe city council will meet on March 18 and they will discuss appointing aninterim. A special election will likely happen in June. That person will be inoffice until December 31. The general election will be in November.

The Mayor and his wife Dana, were high school sweethearts. They were together for 50-years. They have two children and several grandkids.

The flag at Monticello City Hall has beenlower to half-staff in honor of Mayor Allen Maxwell.

There are no details about Mayor Maxwell's death at this time.
