A Pulaski County man's holiday fun ended in the hospital when his homemade cannon fired prematurely Tuesday.

When deputies arrived at Advanced Paint and Body in the 28400 block of Kanis Road, Gregory Carlson already had a bulky bandage around his left hand and wrist. He told deputies he was trying to pack Pyrodex into the cannon when it sparked, igniting the Pyrodex and causing an explosion.

Carlson had severe damage to his left hand, plus burns on his face and chest.

The ATF was notified of the incident, though a Pulaski County Sheriff's Office report indicates they never responded.
