Recall Election Scheduled for Alexander Mayor

Residents in Alexander will have the opportunity to vote on whether to keep their current mayor Paul Mitchell.

More than 260 registered voters signed a petition to hold a recall election this November.

Mitchell tells our news partner The Saline Courier he supports the election. He says he believes in holding politicians accountable.

Mitchell's tenure has been riddled with controversy. You may remember his wife was sentenced earlier this year after she pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine.

And last summer, bank records for the city showed thousands of dollars missing from the general fund and police fund.

Former police chief Horace Walters told us he started investigating the city's finances and the mayor told him to stop.

Walters says the mayor fired him after seeing his interview on KATV.
