Woman dead after dog attack

CAVE CITY (KATV) — A Cave City woman is dead after she was attacked by her pit bull.

Police received a call Friday afternoon from a female who said a dog was attacking her mother at a home on North Melody.

When police arrived, they found Alice Payne, 75, deceased on the living room floor. According to police, the woman had apparent bite marks covering her face, neck, and arms.

Family members were able to get the dog off the woman and into the backyard. When police arrived, they put the dog down.

The daughter told police the pit bull belonged to her mother.

Payne's body has been transported to the state crime lab for an autopsy. The body of the dog was turned over to the Arkansas Department of Health for testing of diseases.

The police chief says Cave City does not have a vicious dog ordinance, but he plans to ask the city council to consider one this week.
