World's oldest person, Arkansan Gertrude Weaver, dies
CAMDEN (KATV) —
Channel 7 News has confirmed that the world's oldest person, 116-year-old Gertrude Weaver from Arkansas, died Monday morning.
Ms. Weaver died due to complications from pneumonia. She passed away peacefully at 10:12 Monday morning, according to the staff at Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Camden where she was a resident.
Gertrude Weaver, born in 1898, was already the oldest person in America, but she was pronounced the world's oldest person on April 1 after it was announced that 117-year-old Misao Okawa in Japan had died.
Ms. Weaver had said she wanted President Barack Obama to attend her 117th birthday party on the Fourth of July.
