Buyer beware

Social promotion of companies on Facebook and Instagram can often lead to impulse purchases...and regret.

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - Social promotion of companies and products on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram can often lead to impulse purchases...and regret.

We have a few sites that you may want to be wary of.

Before you order online from any company, you need to do a little research.

If you do, it will decrease the likelihood you will have to contact Seven-On-Your-side later.

Skybound Trading is a new company out of Boulder, Colorado, that has a really good-looking website selling ultra-cozy bed accessories and home decor.

But do a little digging and you will find that Skybound Trading just opened this month and operates out of an unimpressive apartment.

We heard from Chris in Arkansas who says he ordered four chunky blankets for nearly $300 after seeing ads on Facebook and Instagram. After ordering a month ago, his order has not shipped and the company is not responding.

Many others are posting on Facebook that they consider Skybound Trading a scam site after placing orders, spending money and getting nothing.

Todd tells us that he placed an order at www.teeanimals.com after seeing a Facebook ad.

The order was supposedly shipped, but the U.S. Postal Service has no record of it.

Teeanimals has a slick website with lots of clever T-shirts, but one thing you will not find is a phone number, the city or state where the company is located or a way to request a refund.

And a local company with a really nice website is Bourbon and Boots in North Little Rock.

Greg from Alabama contacted us about an order he placed back in September. After numerous promises that his order was about to ship, he finally requested a refund.

Bourbon and Boots has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau. Forty-two new complaints have been filed since November 28th. Most involve orders for etched glassware heavily promoted in social media ads.

A good rule of thumb to protect yourself is do business with companies that have a legitimate address and do some research before you buy.

The Better Business Bureau has no data on Skybound Trading because the company is so new and has no record of Teeanimals at all.
