September is Library Card Sign-up Month, when libraries nationwide celebrate the power of libraries and remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

And to celebrate, CALS and the North Little Rock Public Library System are hosting the Rock, Paper, Run 5K Run/Walk on September 9th, 2023.

CALS spokesperson Tameka Lee joined Good Afternoon Arkansas to discuss the run.

Participants will walk or run the route between the North Little Rock William F. Laman Library and the CALS Main Library. Runners and spectators are also encouraged to dress up as their favorite book characters.

Following the Rock, Paper, Run 5K, a Library Card Sign-up Cool Down Party will take place on the grounds of CALS Main Library from 10AM to 2PM. The event is free and open to the public and will feature assorted kid- and family-friendly activities, including a bounce house, craft area, food trucks, a kid’s area in the Main Library garden, and booths where individuals can sign up for a library card from either library system.
