KATV'S Beth Hunt talks firework safety tips with Local Dealer Scott Deaton of Deaton Fireworks.

"Fireworks are synonymous with our celebration of Independence Day. So we need to remember to follow the appropriate safety measures when using fireworks. Common sense is very important when using fireworks," says Deaton.

  • Never light fireworks indoors
  • Point fireworks away from people, homes, and keep away from brush, leaves & flammable substances
  • Always stand several feet away from lit fireworks.
  • If a device does not go off, do not stand over it to investigate it. Put it out with water and dispose of it.
  • Always have a bucket of water, connected water hose and/or a fire extinguisher nearby.
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks with water before discarding
  • Never use illegal or ‘home-made’ fireworks

Deaton is now entering his 37th season of providing fireworks to Central Arkansas for the 4th of July holiday.

"After graduating from Fair High School in 1987, I opened my first tent location in Alexander that summer to pay for my college tuition at the University of Arkansas," says Deaton.

He has a new location at 21505 Arkansas 365 in Maumelle at the corner of Maumelle Blvd and Hwy 365.
