Conway student receives McLarty Drives Education Scholarship

Savannah Dycus of Conway is the May winner for the McLarty Drives Education Scholarship.

As the school year comes to an end, KATV is excited to announce May's winner of the McLarty Drives Education Scholarship.

Savannah Dycus is a senior from Conway High School.

She got a big surprise recently in class and a $2,500 check from the McLarty Automotive Group.

She was nominated by her senior counselor, Jan Armstrong, who says Savannah is an excellent student who wants to give to others and has a warm personality. She says you can tell that by the clubs she joined.

"The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, our Caring Cats Club Service Organization. She's volunteered for Teen Court in Conway, so everything is community-oriented. Very about other people," Armstrong said.

"It just brings me great joy to see that - to see her enthusiasm and how humbled she was and how surprised she was and that realization that, 'Hey, my hard work did pay off,'" Armstrong continued.

"That means I'm definitely blessed," Savannah said. "God has gifted me with something that can help me with my future, and it just feels good to know that I was one of the lucky ones that got the scholarship."

Savannah plans to go to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and eventually on to medical school.
