Bryant Parkway Elementary School opened its doors for the first time Monday.

Five hundred students are attending the new elementary school this year, but the building can accommodate as many as 700 students.

Officials say the building was built with safety in mind as the 40 faculty members on hand will be able to see every aspect of this building as they roam through the halls.

The school's principal says his staff expects great things.

"Our vision is that Parkway will be the greatest school on Earth," said Kameron Ervin, the assistant principal. "That means having the greatest students, teachers, the most rigorous instruction - a place where children can achieve and be successful."

A community open house at the school is set for September 20.
