A 16-year-old girl has been hospitalized in Little Rock after she was shot while riding in a car.

Authorities tell KATV the victim, whose name has not been released, was riding in the car with her mother and several others near Mabelvale Cutoff and Warren Rd. on Wednesday around noon.

According to a police report, that's when a black male wearing a black hoodie and gray sweatpants walked into their lane of traffic and stopped. The driver swerved to miss the male, and one passenger noticed he had a gun.

At that time, the suspect fired at their vehicle and the teenage girl was hit on her lower back.

Police say the victim was driven to the hospital and her injuries are not life threatening.

Authorities searched the area, but did not find the suspect.
