STUTTGART, Ark. (KATV) — Stuttgart Police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon homicide. Two people have since been detained for questioning.
Neighbors heard shots ring out in the Rock Island neighborhood just past 2:30 p.m. "I just heard two gun shots and I hit the ground. And then a lot of them, there were about 42 of them. All I remember is me looking outside the window and basically seeing a whole lot of bullets and stuff on the ground and people screaming," said A.J. Higgins.
Zack Geans, 20, was shot to death during the cross-fire. Stuttgart Police then detained two people in connection to the incident under an investigative hold, 26-year-old Chyvontae Powell and 21-year-old Keenen Hudson. So far, they have no charges.
George Jeffrey lives across the street from where it all happened, and he's been there for the last 50 years. He says things like this don't normally happen, adding, "It used to be kind of rough, but I was surprised to see anything like that happen here." And especially to someone he knows. He's related to Gean's grandmother. "She's a really sweet woman. Something like that, boy, I don't know how she's going to take it," said Jeffrey.
The two that were detained by Stuttgart police may not be the only ones. Detectives say they expect more arrests as this investigation continues.
