3 arrested after Ark. Highway Police conduct safety inspection in Van Buren
VAN BUREN (KATV) —
Three people are behind bars after Arkansas Highway Police confiscated 30 pounds of marijuana during a motor vehicle safety inspection in Van Buren Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say Leonardo Santana, Leonel Santana, and Alejandro Figueroa, all 31-years-old from Miami, Florida were taken into custody and transported to the Crawford County Detention facility.
According to AHP, the inspection was conducted on Interstate 40 around mile marker 3 in Van Buren on May 15. The vehicle inspected was a transporter carrying a load of automobiles.
The officer doing the inspection reported discovering the drugs concealed in the fuel tank of a Ford pickup truck that was being transported.
Authorities also found $7,160 in U.S. currency in addition to the marijuana.
Arkansas Highway Police say the truck originated in Colorado and was delivering the automobiles to Miami and Kansas. The vehicle carrying the marijuana was operated by Nationwide Transporters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
