76 Arkansas schools discipline students in violation of state law
In 2013, Arkansas lawmakers made it illegal for schools to punish truant students with out of school suspension. However, more than five years later, dozens of Arkansas schools continue to discipline truant students from elementary to high school with this illegal punishment.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, KATV reports on the 76 schools in violation of state law and why a University of Arkansas professor says excluding these kids from school is the start of the school to prison pipeline.
Then, on Thursday, Jan. 10, KATV digs deeper into school discipline and the disturbing trend in many schools of disproportionately punishing black students.
