An armed robber took hundreds of dollars from a Little Rock man Saturday and promised to pay him back later, police reported.

Bennie Gray, 61, said he was walking in the area of Asher Avenue and Woodrow Street when a man driving a beige Ford Crown Victoria pulled up beside him about 10:30 a.m., according to a police. Gray said the man asked him for beer and cigarettes, and he told the man he didn't have any.

Gray said the man then pointed a gun at him and told him to empty his wallet, the report says. After taking about $700 from Gray, the robber reportedly said he'd just gotten out of prison and was "doing bad." He told Gray he would "catch you again and give you your money back."

Gray fled the area. Police said he was not injured.

Officers searched the area but made no arrests.
