RECTOR, Ark. (KATV) — A Rector man was shot and killed by a local officer outside a convenience store at Main Street and Hwy. 49 on Wednesday.
Authorities identify the suspect involved in the incident as 21-year-old Gary Warbritton.
The Rector Police Department received a call around 3:47 p.m. about a man walking along Main Street waving a gun.
When the police arrived at the scene, Warbritton reportedly pointed a gun at an officer.
Then the officer fired his gun at the suspect.
The suspect fled the area and led police to a convenience store where officers tried to convince him to drop the gun.
Officials say Warbritton once more pointed his gun at police, prompting an officer to fire his gun.
Authorities say Warbritton was pronounced dead at the scene and no police were injured.
Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the use of deadly force by police.
The suspect's body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for purposes to discover the manner and cause of death and collect forensic evidence.
No other information on the incident is available at this time.
