Arkansas State rugby player dies in crash in Texas

Garrett Soileau

An Arkansas State University rugby player died in a crash last week in Texas, the school said Tuesday.

The school said Garrett Soileau, a 22-year-old junior, was killed in a crash late Friday near his hometown, a Houston suburb called The Woodlands. Details of the crash were not immediately available.

Soileau had played for the Red Wolves rugby team since he was a freshman in 2014.

Head rugby coach Blake White and executive director of student health and wellness Matt Huckaby said in a joint statement Tuesday that Soileau had a "strong and calm demeanor" and was "among the most affable students on campus."

"To say he will be dearly missed would be an understatement," the two said. "May he rest in peace and the Arkansas State family will always hold a very special place in our hearts for this young man."
