INDEPENDENCE COUNTY (KATV) — Arkansas State Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Independence County.
According to ASP public information officer Bill Sadler, an Independence County sheriff's deputy came into contact with Joseph Garcia on Jamestown Road near the Desha community just before 7:30 a.m. on December 25.
Police say Garcia told the deputy he was armed and refused to comply with orders.
State and local law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
According to Sadler, at about 11 a.m., Garcia shot at officers and officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
ASP is investigating the case and will turn it over to a prosecutor to determine is charges should be filed.
