JEFFERSON COUNTY (KATV) — Authorities in Jefferson County are working a train derailment in the community of Altheimer Friday afternoon.
Jefferson County Sheriff Lafeyette Woods confirms the trail derailment happened near East Front St. and Battle Chapel Loop, at about 4 p.m.
It was a Union Pacific train with two engines and more than 100 cars.
Woods says about 20 of those cars derailed from the tracks. It is unknown at this time what material the cars were carrying, but emergency management crews are headed to the scene as a precaution. There have been no spills reported following the derailment.
No injuries were reported at this time.
