BATESVILLE, Ark. (KATV) — Update:
Batesville police have released the officers name that was involved in an officer-involved shooting.
Officer Michael Dickinson was shot Friday night.
Dickinson is in the Intensive Care Unit in serious condition but stable. He is expected to undergo one or two more surgeries.
Arkansas State Police now confirm a Batesville officer was shot multiple times around 7:40 Friday night.
According to the Arkansas State Police release Saturday morning, the officer made contact with Marvin Stair, 44, who immediately fired a gun at the officer striking him multiple times. The officer returned fire, took cover, and called for assistance.
When additional officers arrived at the residence, Stair appeared from the front door of the home and pointed a rifle at them, leading police to fire on the suspect.
Stair was pronounced dead at the scene. His body will be turned over to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.
No motive for the shooting has been released or why the officer was responding to the home.
Batesville Police have asked the State police to assist in the investigation.
Upon completion of the investigation, Arkansas State Police Special Agents assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division will present an investigative file to the prosecuting attorney for determination of whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas laws.
Arkansas State Police have been called in to investigate after a Batesville police officer was shot.
Our partner station KAIT reports the Batesville police chief says the officer shot Friday night is expected to be okay.
At this time, the chief says there is one known suspect.
