Baxter County man arrested for threatening calls to CNN

The Baxter County Sherriff's Office arrested Mountain Home resident Benjamin Craig Mathews, 39, on charges of terroristic threatening and harassing communications based on a complaint received by the Atlanta, Georgia Police Department.

Officials say CNN received 40 threatening calls between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2.

Authorities say someone with knowledge of Mathews listened to the calls and recognized his voice.

More investigating discovered that Mathews made calls to another network, as well as several public officials and organizations.

Mathews was arrested on Tuesday, taken into custody and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mathews remains in custody with bond set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on Nov. 8.
