Benzos: The Hidden Epidemic
They’re considered one of the most addictive prescription pills on the market, and if mixed with alcohol or other drugs, it can turn deadly.
They’re called benzodiazepines, commonly known as benzos. You may recognize brand names such as Xanax, Klonopin, or Ativan. These drugs, mainly used to treat anxiety and insomnia, have a high addiction risk.
According to the National Institute on Drug abuse, more than 30 percent of opioid overdoses involve benzos. But why are these drugs so addictive? Who’s using them? How are they getting it? And why aren’t we talking about it?
