Authorities in Saline County are investigating after an explosive device was found on an individual near U.S. 67 and Arkansas 229 in the Haskell area.

Lt. Joe Traylor with the Saline County Sheriff's Office tells KATV that a deputy made contact with a pedestrian in the area Thursday morning and was going to offer him a ride home. While interacting with the pedestrian, "it was discovered that the person was in possession of an explosive device," according to the sheriff's office.

As a precaution, deputies secured the area, which also prompted a lock down at the nearby Harmony Grove schools. Operation of schools and local businesses has since resumed.

Traylor says the Little Rock Bomb Squad was called to the scene and neutralized the device.

The sheriff's office said there is no current threat to public safety.

The individual is being interviewed by detectives.

The sheriff's office is partnering with federal agencies on the investigation.
