A Camden couple is facing multiple charges after a 5-year-old girl was hospitalized for malnutrition and salt poisoning.

Antwon Davidson, 28, and Janecia Moore, 27, turned themselves over to police Monday after warrants were issued for their arrests.

Authorities received a report Friday of Davidson's 5-year-old daughter being taken to the emergency room with Moore, Davidson's live-in girlfriend, for the girl reportedly falling down the stairs and complaining of neck pain.

Medical staff told authorities they were concerned with the child's weight and officers say she was undersize for her age.

The girl was taken to Arkansas Children's Hospital, where several workers described her as malnourished and frail with sunken facial features. The staff said she was also crying for food and water when she arrived.

Police said the child told staff she wasn't allowed to drink after 6 p.m. because she "potties on herself." The child also said when she doesn't eat her PopTarts fast enough, her "daddy throws it in the trash," according to the police report.

Hospital staff found circular burn marks on the child's upper thighs and bruising on her backside.

Authorities said Moore also took a sandwich, given by hospital staff, from the girl because she did not eat it fast enough.

The girl was put in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for severe malnutrition and dehydration, but doctors also noticed her electrolytes were remarkably high for sodium. Doctors say her sodium levels were so high that it could likely cause permanent injury or even death if it persisted untreated.

The child told staff Davidson and Moore made her eat rice with a spoonful of salt in it. Doctors told police these high levels would result in an intense thirst drive, which explains why she had gotten in trouble at home from drinking from the toilet, police said.

Both Davidson and Moore were booked for criminal attempt of murder, domestic battery and permitting the abuse of a minor.
