Labor and delivery services are ending at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, the hospital system said Friday.

The hospital said in a statement that those services, along with the neonatal intensive care unit, will be phased out in the coming months to "address the trend of higher costs and lower reimbursements impacting the healthcare industry as a whole." Nurses in affected departments will be offered positions at other CHI St. Vincent hospitals in central Arkansas.

Labor and delivery services will continue at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

“We have prayed about and sought alternatives to discontinuing these programs,” Chad Aduddell, CHI St. Vincent Market CEO, said in the statement. “In the end, we recognize that these services are well provided by other organizations in central Arkansas. We are also working through various partnerships to ensure covered labor and delivery services for our staff who are or may become pregnant.”

Delivery services are still offered at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock and UAMS Medical Center.
